Over most of southern India, the monsoon is still in progress until the first week of October.  It stops first in the north [Punjab, Rajahstan, Haryana etc] by about 10th August, in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Andra Pradesh etc by about 20th September, but further south it will go on for another two or three weeks.  Therefore, to answer the question, it will be very wet in some parts, fairly wet in others, and drying out in yet others.

The temperature over most of India at this time is quite reasonable and daytimes feel like Mediterranean summer. Then will come the time of "October heat" when it rises suddenly for a few weeks.  

During November-February is the period known as winter and the temperature in Delhi can drop to 10 degC, in Bombay to 15 degC, in Goa to 18 degC and in Cochin to 20 degC during the night.
