What is the weed kids would chew on that was called 'sour dots'? (It is too small to be sour dock)?

It is too small to be sour dock (yellow dock; curly dock), but has a seed or flower head which looks similar. however, the plant is much shorter, the stem is thinner, and the leaves are much more narrow.

The sour dock, Rumex acetosa is the large species and the red sorrel, Rumex acetosella a smaller one.
