I'm traveling to El Salvador in United Airlines operated by TACA.

Most of the second checked bag surcharges are for domestic travel, not international travel.  I would suggest contacting TACA.  The TACA rules will apply here since you are on their aircraft, rather than the United rules.

According to the TACA website, you are allowed one piece of cabin baggage weighing no more than 10kg (22 lbs.) and two pieces of checked baggage weighing no more than 22kg (50 lbs.)

south west airlines has free second bags but any other airlines its about 30 dollars for a 2nd bag, the weight limit is between 50 and 70 pounds depending on the airlind
