  1. If you want the rule book for USAV, you can download it at http://usavolleyball.org/RulesOfficials/...  (It is called the Domestic Competition Regulations.)

    It is very hard to get you the in depth rules in a short answer.  The book is roughly 180 pages.

    The other 2 posters are correct most of the time.  You can not hit the ball twice in a row, EXCEPT when you are the blocker and make the first team contact OR you are making one attemp to play the ball and hit it twice (or more).

    You can not hit the net EXCEPT if you hit it when you are not playing the ball.

    You can not cross the center line EXCEPT  if your foot or hand is on or above the line or you are playing women's college and it does not affect the play.

    If you are not confused yet, you are not paying attention.

    If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  I teach rules clinics in our USAV region of the Texas gulf coast.

  2. you can only contact the ball once in a row... u cant touch the net, when setting the ball if u contact it with two hands at different times its called a lift.. if u hit the ball up without lockin ur hands to pass it its called a lift.. wen serving u have to be behind the line... u can over and or underhand and the ball can hit the net but must go over.. u cannot assist a ball over a net.. it cannot hit the poles on the net or else its out... u also cannot block a serve.. you cannot have ur foot over the line under the net..thas all i can think about right now

  3. AGGRESSIVELY CHASE THE BALL AND DIVE FOR IT, USE THE TOP OF YOUR HANDS OR ARMS TO DELIVER IT - OH WAIT! THATS ITALIAN FOOTBALL

  4. Okay so there are six people on a court at one time. 1 setter, one right side hitter, two outside hitters, and two middle hitters. There are also two designated sections of the court. Front row and back row. Front row hits the ball at the other team and back row passes the balls hit at your team.

    For each position [setter counting as the second right side], one out of the two are back row and the other one is the front row. This will rotate as the game goes on.

    The rules that i remember are:

    1) Only touch the ball once in a row. You can't touch it twice in a row. Once you touch it, you have to wait for someone else to contact it in order for you to be able to contact it again.

    2) Each team only has three hits a piece to get it over the net.

    3) You have to stay on your own side of the court. You CANNOT hit the net, or go over the line dividing the two sides.

    4) You cannot carry the ball, meaning you can't do anything that would mean you 'holding the ball' too long, or make it look like you're throwing it.

    5)You have to hit it inside the opposing teams court. On your own side of the court, you can shank it, meaning that it could hit your hands and go off the court, but your teammates could still get it. But in order to keep it in play, they would have to get over the net and in the other team's court in 3 hits.

    6)While serving, you cannot step over the line of the court, you have to start and contact the ball while you are behind the line of the court.

    So now the explanation:

    ---the setter- this person always gets the second ball. so once someone contacts it for the first time, it is the setters job to get the ball to one of the hitters. It is hard to be a setter because they must set the ball up in a way so that the hitters have the best way to hit it.

    ---the hitters [a.k.a front row]- they are responsible for passing the balls that come ovre and are really short or really close to the net. They get these balls, pass them to the setter, the setter sets them and they hit. If the back row passes the ball, then all the hitter has to do is wait to get set and hit the ball in the other court.

    ---the passers [a.k.a back row]- these people are responsible for getting most of the balls passed or hit over by the other team. they pass these balls as close to the setter as possible so it is as easy as possible for the setter to set the hitters. they can also pass or hit the ball over the net, but they have to stay behind the ten foot line [the line ten feet away from the net on each side].

    ---serving- you have to serve behind the line of the court [the back end line] and in the court. the server rotates each time.

    ---rotation- each time your team gets the ball or the point again, you rotate to the right so as a demonstration.

    1   2   3---->    4  1  2

    4   5   6---->    5   6  3

    the person in the right back is the server each time.

    So thats basically all i can think of right now. But if you have questions, just email or im me. But i wouldnt be too worried. This was only my first year of playing volleyball and i already know everything about it. So if your just starting, your coach will explain stuff to you. Good luck!

  5. it's like football(4 chances to push the ball 10 yards forward, until you reach the goal line 100 yards out, you score)

    In VB, each team get 3 chances to send the ball to the floor of the opponent to score.  In club & high school ball, whoever score 25 points first win the set. 2/3 or 3/5 a match.  In NCAA, 30 points is the game all 3/5 a match.
