What is the whole point of those stupid chain letter email forwards?

I've always wondered, what is the whole point of those thing. Like, who starts it, what are they trying to accomplish? Just so that they can see how many people actualy send it? Please, if you've also wondered this, discuss why you think people start them. I think they are a waste of time usually, some stuff in them is interesting, but I never send them again. What do you all think?

They are used by spammers and phishers to collect Email address! I never forward them no matter how cutiezy/funny they are. Good for you for not doing it either!

They are nothing but a stupid waste of time.  And whomever believes in the c**p that they spew is also a complete waste of time.....

Yea, I totally agree with you! There really stupid, I do read some of them but I never forward them.
