  1. Wind tunnels are used to design cars, planes and things that are affected by the wind.  You can find them at many universities and industries that do such designing.

  2. Between your left and right ears.

  3. i concur with answer one.

  4. A wind tunnel is a space for blowing air past vehicles that go fast, although some are used for testing building models.  The most common form is a large donut with huge fans located at one point, grids for straightening the air flow, and a section for mounting the test device with instrumentation to measure the forces on the device in 3 dimensions.

Wind tunnels have been built that have a completely open instrument section where air is sucked out one side of a room and blown in the other for mounting large models and full sized cars and small planes.  They have also been built open, where the fans blow air past the model which is then exhausted to atmosphere, which allows a huge amount of air but only at atmospheric pressure.   Tunnels exist for high and low pressure, for highly heated air and more normal temperature control cold or warm, and for supersonic air.
