  1. It varies a lot from month to month and year to year.  I've seen it get under 0 degrees Fahrenheit, but that's rare.  The coldest days, usually in January and February, have a low in the teens or 20s, and a high in the low 30s.    Definitely get a cold that can handle a windchill in the single digits--we get at least a few such days each winter.

  2. depends.  it's a bit chilly because it's next to the potomac during the spring. In summer it's hot unless your walking around inner city with lots of buildings. In winter it is extremely cold.

  3. the coldest that it could get here is sometimes the lower 20s to possibly the upper teens

  4. Winter temperatures can very greatly with the effects of the western airflow and the warm Chesapeake Bay & ocean not that far to the east. I recommend a good heavy winter coat with a zip out lining. (I prefer a long coat or at least stadium length) That way you can wear it all winter no matter the temperature. Good pair of gloves, hat & scarf and snow boots if you'll be out much walking and not all sidewalks get cleared as they should. Temps vary from teens-40's with dips lower and days warmer. Enjoy your stay in DC.
