What is the wireless adapter for my desktop?

Right now I'm using Netgear WG311 which always have a low signal. I was really good when it was new. My router is a WGR614 by Netgear.

My Computer

Dell 2400

Windows Xp

256 MB of Ram

  1. To strengthen the signal, you have 3 options:

    Buy a directional antenna.  Best Buy can help you out with this.

    Buy a wireless range extender that talks to your router wirelessly.  This can be tricky to setup.

    Buy a powerline range extender.  This is much simpler to setup, but it can be more expensive.

    You can ditch wireless completely and go with this technology called powerline.  Powerline can extend the range of your wireless network, and it can replace wireless.  You still need wireless for hand held and portable devices that need the freedom to roam.  But if your device can be tied to a power outlet, powerline might work better for you.  You can keep your existing wireless router.  I suggest you take a look at these links:

    This is one option.  Keep in mind you will have to buy another non wireless powerline adapter to complete the other end of the connection.  This device can go any where in your house, as long as it is within range of your wireless.  The other device plugs in right near your router.
