What is the world's oldest civilization, that still exists today?

  1. The oldest continuous culture, are the click-speaking Bushmenof Central Africa, who have lived in a similar manner, for the past 15,000 years...

    Because they are a Hunter/Gatherer type of people, they have not built a city per se...

    And since civilization really means city-dwellers, the oldest known cities would be Jerusalem & Jericho which are both about 5500 years old...

    Both of these cities were originally built for farming communities, who shared the work, and stored grain-food for their inhabitants, for years in advance...

    Mesopotamia & Egypt also have similar types of ancient cities dating back 6,000 years, but both of their cultures have suffered interuptions, so those two examples would not be continuous...

    China has also had continuous agricultural village-societies for the past 8,000 years, or more, but city/civilizations did not come until much later...


  2. The oldest calendar system in use is the Hebrew (Jewish) Calendar.  It is year 5768 in the Hebrew calendar, 2007 in the Julian (christian) calendar, and 1386 in the modern Persian calendar.
