Why am I here?

As others have pointed out in their answers above, any way you phrase this kind of question - a question that asks what is the nature of reality and consciousness - is at the core of all our lives. And, I believe, built in to the physics of our universe. Although not sentient or self aware (yet), I believe that the ENTIRE UNIVERSE exists simply to seek its own existence and to reduce its entropy until it becomes infinitely complex - what we humans might call 'God' - a state in which time and space, matter and energy, will cease because they will have served their purpose. A singularity if you like. We are but a tiny step on that journey from dead empty order, to ever-living divine chaos.

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (published in 1979), the characters visit the legendary planet Magrathea, home to the now-collapsed planet building industry, and meet Slartibartfast, a planetary coastline designer who was responsible for the fjords of Norway. Through archival recordings, he relates the story of a race of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings who built a computer named Deep Thought to calculate the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
