Hands down, without a doubt.

Most European cars like Mercs, Audis and BMWs are extremely safe. Not just because of the active safety devices like ESP EBD BFA, things like that, but the passive safety is better too. More powerful, easily modulated brakes, higher levels of grip, better roadholding, better visibility, the passenger cells are made stronger and stiffer.

Any SUV/truck is never going to be as safe as a sedan, for the simple fact that the higher centre of gravity and lower performance suspension reduces handling and grip, and makes the car much easier to lose control of.
