  2. cults that tell ppl wht holidays to keep, what clothes to wear and monitor everything their members are doing!!!!!!!!!!

    Been there did that for 20 yrs in a Non Trinity cult...now Methodist...

Golly gee, I'd say anything that says you have to have or do something extra to be a good person...the point is to be a good  person...if you keep giving them a lot of other baggage to worry about, of course they're going to think they have to have that more than just the efforts of being good require...wouldn't they?

    The trappings of any religion are there to help a person keep focus, give them something to lean on when we run into those times in our lives when it's just not so easy to be a good person....but they were never put there to replace the main thing...

I once was part of a group-  men were not allowed to wear wide ties because they were in style (thus worldly),  we were not allowed to listen to the radio or watch television,  women were not allowed to wear sweaters,  the list goes on and on.  BTW,  this was not a "cult", this was a Pentecostal Bible School.  I have no comment.

  8. Unless you are high up on the Mormon chain, and tithe 20% of your gross income, you are not allowed into the higher areas of the temple.  The is ludicrous.

    And what do you mean by "legalism".

  10. Once I had to put a scarf over my head in order to participate in communion.  That's not so bad, though.  It's unfortunate that the "no drinking, no dancing" stuff was so prevalent.  People thinking that they can't enjoy life because of religion.
