  1. As a student a friend and I had lunch at Ronnies in Orlando, just chicken noodle soup and ice tea, we were very broke in those days, so we left all our spare change maybe 30 cents with a note explaining the service was great but our purses were empty.

  2. The best one I've experienced myself is where the waitress at a pizza place was rude and talking on her cell phone instead of to us.

When it was time to leave, we had all the plates stacked up for her, to make it easier, but her rudeness continued.

So we spread out all the plates as much as we could, and put her tip in small coins spread out all over the table in between the plates.

We didn't break any laws and rules either...we just made her clean up and tip collection a little bit harder ;)

  3. I had a server working for me that received a ten dollar tip on a four hundred plus dollar check, before the guests left he got a roll of quarters from our bar, opened the roll and threw them at the guests as they walked out.

  4. I once left a 2 cent tip. A friend and I went out to eat ans she ordered a chef salad. The waiter told her to order the salad bar so he would not have to make her a salad. (The salad bar was a plain one-no meat, just lettuce and a few other items). He was probably the rudest waiter I ever encountered, so we each left one penny.

  5. I tipped even though the service was bad.

    Worst $2 I ever spent.

  6. Weirdest tipping ---

Friend of mine invited us to a formal Japanese dinner (private room, tons of little courses) since he would be flying into NYC. At end of meal he asked manager to come over. In front of the three wait staff he started speaking apparently Japanese. The manager and all the wait staff had mortified looks on their faces. He proceeded to take out of his wallet 2 bank notes from Japan that he gave to the two male wait staff. He gave a very generous tip to the female wait person.

Later I asked him what was that about. Apparently the two male wait staff were making very graphic comments as to their intents with our wives, so he gave them tips of about 0.25 cents each. So, I asked, why the big tip for the other ? Apparently her comment to the male wait staff was that maybe they could get women like that if they had what he had in his pants. I never knew that he had learned Japanese for business, obviously they hadn't known that either.

  7. I heard that if someone leaves a penny it's to remind the server that they know the proper tipping etiquette, but their service wasn't worth tipping. That would be a pretty huge insult!!!

  8. When my mom had no cash left for a tip and had left her credit card at home.  The only thing she had to give the waiter was a lottery ticket and told him good luck.  I was so embarrassed-never ate at that restaurant again.  I still wonder if he won anything or not?!?!
