What is the worst tragedy any human being could ever experience?

I am speaking of individual situations, not man-kind as a whole. I know this question sounds a little strange, but I have been thinking about this question for a while and I would like to hear some opinions.

passing away of loved ones.

losing a child regardless of age or losing a sibling are two of the most tragic things i could think of.

Being physically, sexually and emotionally abused. And having to live with the scars that has created, knowing that you will never be the person you were meant to be before it happened. Facing that life long struggle with yourself.

Having to see your children tortured and killed without being able to help them . I suppose I' m influenced by a novel I read about civil war in Serbia . The martyrdom of Palestinan children is also unbearable whatever the political reasons invoked may be . Not to speak of Darfour and Africa .
