What is the yard?

I have recently started horse riding and everyone is refering to 'the yard'.I no its stupid but im to embarrassed to ask what this is.Does anyone know?

Generally it's short for Stable-yard

I think you live in the UK, in US they dont use that term but in europe it means the barn and or the paddocks...

how did they refer to the yard, what are they talking about?  Like stay in the yard?  Im confused

"The Yard" is a term meaning an enclosed area designated for a specific purpose, such as horseback riding.

the yard is the like the stables and the fields, where the horses are kept ie the riding yard, in the US it is called a barn, i think?

In England, the word " yard " means ; the place where your horse lives. Examples of this; " livery yard " , " stable yard ". It would be made up of stabling, outhouses for storage, fields/pastures/paddocks, possibly an arena and horse walker.
