What is the yard?

I have recently started horse riding and everyone is refering to 'the yard'.I no its stupid but im to embarrassed to ask what this is.Does anyone know?

  3. I think you live in the UK, in US they dont use that term but in europe it means the barn and or the paddocks...

  8. In England, the word " yard " means ; the place where your horse lives. Examples of this; " livery yard " , " stable yard ". It would be made up of stabling, outhouses for storage, fields/pastures/paddocks, possibly an arena and horse walker.
