  1. The average costs of elite gymnastics is anywhere in the hundreds to possibly the thousands.

And by signing up for the elites you sacrifice not only your money but the times should be about 10 hours more than what your doing now. most kids are home schooled and spend every waking hour doing gymnastics

so i would only sign up if this is something you love and are thinking about doing the rest of your life.

  2. in the US, thousands, probably. elite legacies such as parkettes charge around $250 monthly for level 10/elite girls.

at smaller clubs it is generally cheaper. larger, more publicised ones will charge more. just a tip.

in the UK it's cheaper, mine's only around £500 a year. and a lot of girls get training scholarships here too.

  3. The elite gymnasts at my gym pay $500 a month for tuition (or $6000 a year).  That's just for the daily training.  They also pay about $1200 a year in competition fees.  That doesn't include travel expenses; elite meets are nearly always out-of-town, which requires air fare, hotel, meals, and other costs.  Assuming that a parent travels with the gymnast, that probably comes out to about $3200 a year (on the low end).  Now add in the competitive leotard and warm-ups: on average, about $350.  And leotards to work out in every day - most gymnasts have at least 20 leos (my daughter has over 50) at an average of $40 each: $800.  Oh, and grips - two pairs a year at $50 each = $100.  I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, but so far we're at $11,650.

Now, some elite gymnasts, like Shawn Johnson, attend regular public school.  But they're in the minority.  Most elites are either homeschooled or, like Nastia, attend a special private school that works around their training and competition schedule.  So let's add in the yearly tuition for Nastia's private school (about $10,000).  Now we're up to $20,000+ a year.

So yeah... it aint cheap!  Of course, it can pay off if you get a college scholarship.  But the cost of doing high-level gymnastics through high school is actually about the same (if not more) than four years of college!
