What is the youngest age a child would be able to survive on their own?

I am talking in the context of a major disaster or civil war.

I am assuming no help from anyone older. The child will need to find shelter, scavenge food and water from any source, whether natural or from leftover food.

  1. have you seen the jungle book?

  2. probably around the ages of 7-13 (maybe younger if the child is raised right and knows how to take good care of themselfs... i personally was taking care of myself by the age of 4)

  3. It depends on the kid. I would probably have been able to survive on my own since I was seven, but for some kids it may have been older or even younger.

  4. my boyfriend is 28 and still wouldnt be able to survive on his own

  5. I think it depends on the maturity level of the child and what kind of previous education he/she had.

  6. it depends some kid could get lucky and find what he needs without much effort.

  7. maybe 4

but out of maybe 100 of them only about 2 will surive

    who knows!!!!

  8. There was a 9 year old who's mother had a seizure while she was driving and the 9 year old took control of the wheel to get to a safe place. I don't really think there is an age.

  9. Good question. I think that the child would need to be old enough to have  basic motor and cognitive skills developed, probably from about age four. How well or for how long they could survive would be dependent on the environment in which they were operating.

Search for information relating to feral children world wide.

  10. a child can leave by them self and survive on their own at an age of 10 even... but how do you think his life would be when they grow up with that childhood :( not good I'll tell you that

  11. As theres many cases on Feral children so thats a really good question. My great grandfather supposedly was orphaned at age 7 and lived on his own pretty much til mid 20's and married my great grandmother and had 18 kids so I guess no one would be alone..lol. Im sure many kids during the civil war teenage siblings what lost both parents ended up becoming feral children to survive and god knows what they had to go thru to survive. Stealing, murder, smuggeling, working on the Underground railway. And probably a host of other things like working in factories, on the railroads, on a farm as a apprentice, or in some other kinda of setting like a stable. But not all feral children are left to fend for them selves some are created thanks to their parents who isolate them from the world in certain ways.

Here are a few links to check out and learn more. Its kinda interesting. Im reading the first one now.

  12. it will depend from children to children.........some become mature vry early but some takes time........it also depends on surrounding in which he/she is living

  13. Interesting question! Do a search on "feral" children. There are many cases.
