How young is the youngest author that is actually famous? Like, has his/her book been made into a movie?

I didn't mean to dignify this question with an actual response, but you seriously dynamite your idea of success and start anew. Do you really think that all the wonderful writers in the world do what they do so that one day, hopefully, they can finally watch Collin Ferrall star in the corrupted hollywood imitation of their work?

I agree with the first answer.  There are many literary titles that came out way before TV was ever invented, and hardly any books today that compare to them.

What? What? Since when does success equal a movie deal? Success is simply getting published. It's practically as easy as building a rocket and actually making it to the moon without dying.  

Hollywood has never had good taste, by the way.

Well, I don't know about any famous authors, but I know that there are some 11/12 year olds that get their books published. It happens very rarely, but I think that the most famous young author is Christopher Paolini. He wrote Eragon when he was 15.

2 notable authors I can think of were 14 when they were published  Atwater-Rhodes (Forests of the Night) and Paolini (Eragon).

According to the Guinness Book of World Records (ya I'm geeky enough to own it) the youngest published novel author is Christopher Beale who was 6 years old when this work ""This and Last Season's Excursions" was published in Scotland in 2006. His father (Theodore Beale) is an author but from there I can't find much other information (due to broken links on his webite cbeale.com).

The yougest US author was a poet named Mattie Stepanek who first published at the age of 8.  He died when he was 13.  I believe he is classified as the youngest prolific writer publishing 7 books in 5 years.
