  1. It's not a civilization, just a nation in southern Africa. It's in the

news lately because of disputed election results. It was,

like South Africa and other African nations, under colonial

rule, and has been subject to similar problems of the post

colonial period, including race issues, ownership of land,

and political issues arising out of the rule of strong man,

Robert Mugabe, who was previously imprisoned under

colonial rule, and probably damaged emotionally from those

experiences. Many of his countrymen oppose him today.

  2. The stone monument.

"Great Zimbabwe became the capital civilization of central Africa known for its famous stone monument. ..."

  3. Keeping Portugese and English colonists out of central Africa until the invention of the railroad and the repeater rifle.

  4. The above post is dead wrong.

Zimbabwe is indeed a country, which was named for the great Bantu civilization that once existed there from the 11th to the 15th century A.D..  The ruins of Great Zimbabwe are the most famous landmark of modern Zimbabwe; they are the remains of the old capital city of the Empire of Great Zimbabwe.  The civilization traded with places as far away as Phoenicia.  Other than that, not much is know about the Great Zimbabwe civilization.

  5. Isenki, thanks for you answer. Zimbabwe is indeed a country. One that its citizens are very proud off despite all that is going on in the country at the present moment.
