I'm going to Lake Michigan with my family and pets on Thursday or Friday. I don't know how my puppy will react to the water. Besides swimming, what else can he do there?

  1. How old is your puppy?  Has it had all it shots?  This time of year the lakes are high in bacteria.  I would be cautious with the water.  Also, I would have my puppy wear a doggy safety vest so if he does go in and under, he will float to the top.  I throw a stick for our dog to catch.  I also let our dog dig a bit in the sand if no visible debris.

I may be over cautious but I did have a puppy get sick at our lake in northern Wisconsin and learned from my mistakes.  Best wishes and have fun with your puppy.

  2. Throw a frisbee or stick.  Walk him on a leash if you are afraid of him going into the water.  If you want him to learn to swim, take him into the water with you, but watch him.

Puppies sleep a lot.  If you give him some good walks and runs...he probably will.  But I would keep him on a leash so no one steals him.

  3. well what kind is he?

if its a lab, retirever, cattle dog he';ll most likely go int he water..if its a smaller dog it most likely wont

  4. Run around and play.

Make sure your pup has all his vaccinations before you take him to any public area like that - if he's not fully vaccinated, he has no immunity to disease.

  5. Well, he could run around and if he's friendly, he would probably play with kids and other doggies. He would probably dig in the sand, and smell everything, then take a nap.

Wow, I just described a normal day for me.
