I'm young, black, and invovled living in ocala, Fl.. We travel to Orlando and Tampa often because there is absolutely nothing of interest for us to do here. Can anyone suggest any events or happenings? links would be great as well. Just looking for something to appease my boredom that doesn't invovle club hopping or car shows. Any jazz cafes'? Spoken word spots? Help me out!

  1. The same as everyone else.......why? Are you different?

  2. I think the lack of activities for young permanent residents is the same no matter what your race or gender.  Even we who travel there have had enough of the tourist traps and also travel to tampa and Port Charlotte for a change.

  3. Food, s*x & music. What else is there?

  4. the same kind of stuff everyone does....

  5. The neighborhoods surrounding the Citrus Bowl is the Blackest part of Orlando. I am sure you will love it there with you being Black you will feel right at home.

  6. Let me get this straight... America "holds back the African Americans" in this country, but then an African American will come on here and ask specifically what there is for an African American to do?  Last I checked segregation doesn't exist in Florida, so you can do anything.

Go online and research different things going on in those areas.  I was able to find a schedule for theaters, plays, concerts, shopping, dining etc. in the brief search I just ran.  Attend scool sporting events, or major sporting events.  Volunteer with your church, school, library, shelter etc.  Ask friends what they do in their free time and hang out with them.  Get more active and go for a walk, ride a bike, rollerblade.  There is never "nothing" to do in an area... it's a matter of going out and finding it.
