Don't say "skiing" because that's not in Canberra. I have a small budget because my wife and I are saving for a home deposit!

  1. pretty much nothing.

    drive to sydney?

  2. Winter in Canberra is rather cold so you do indoor things.

The national gallery ALWAYS have great exhibitions worth seeing. The National Mesuem of Australia is free but also regularly have special exhibition. The war memorial is also a great choice. All these places also have café and eating facilities for a realxing day out.

For the outdoor, even in winter, if the sun is out... there are plenty to do. Riding bikes - or even hiring bikes and go around the lake and visits the various venues of interests along that path is a very popular activity for the locals.

I have  spent Sunday mornings wandering the botanical gardens and took some great photos. You might be pleasantly surprised at what you get to see there.

  3. Canberra winters are very cold and stark, although the days are generally more often than not sunny. There is not a great deal to do there at any time of the year but in winter it is worse.

You could visit the National Gallery, War Memorial, National Museum, and Questacon (the science centre) that place is fun.

Other than that you can rug up and drive to the Cotter and have a BBQ around a fire that is always good fun and we used to do it often.Sometimes if there is snow on the Brindabella's ( it's surrounding mountains) its fun to go play in.

There is always a short trip to Bungendore a small town 20-30mins from Canberra. They have gift shops and great pub food. From there or before there you could visit some of the wineries for wine tasting.

If you are there on the weekend I would suggest you check out the Kingston Markets they have some great stalls. ( Not certain if they only run on Sundays)

That would about cover it. But make certain you have plenty of warm clothing cause its d**n cold!
