  1. I've been to Carcassonne. It was absolutely dead, hardly anybody on the little cobblestoned streets, and most of the shops were shut. To be fair, however, it was smack bang in the middle of winter when I went there, and it was bitterly cold.

I was in France on a school exchange with plenty of my friends from my high school back home so we definitely made sure we had plenty of things to do.

In October, the weather will definitely be warmer and there will be many more people on the streets, and more shops will be open.

I guarantee it will be immense fun exploring all the tiny laneways and sidestreets.

Even in the dead of winter we still managed to find a great restaurant that sold crepes and possibly the coolest lolly shop (candy store) that sold a huge variety of homemade and traditionally made chocolates, lollies and fudge. There is also a lookout from one of the walls where you can see the rest of the more modern part of the city below.

My advice is to take your time in the medieval city. I was there with friends in the middle of winter during subzero temperatures (celsius - so that's colder than freezing) when it was virtually deserted and we still managed to make a whole day of it! Explore every little nook and cranny!

  2. In the area, the most beautiful town is carcassonne.

But there is a lot of small villages around, very charmings typicals!!

you could take the car to see it, the area is really beautiful!!

    Bon voyage!

  3. Just wander around and soak in the ambiance.  Carcasonne is beautiful.

  4. The beginning of October is vendange season; when the grapes are harvested for wine. Carcassonne is a city that can be visited in 2 days. You should definitely do your best to stay at the Hotel de la Cite. This Orient Express hotel is a true delight. The hotel has a superb restaurant. When you arrive it is amusing because cars are not allowed in this walled off city. The hotel has chaffeured cars that come to get you at the city gates. As you navigate the narrow streets, there are pedestrians everywhere. Walking around this historical fortified city is also charming. Bring your flat walking shoes for the cobblestone streets.
