What is there to do in Cornwall/Blackpool over the summer?

I'm planning on taking a friend away for a holiday to either place (for a weekend or a week.... can't decide).

Any recommendations for places to go, accommodation and so on? Cheap as poss plz

We're both students and I have a Youth Hostel Association card but my other friend doesn't.
