  1. Selwo Safari Park! It was the best day out ever!

    It should still be there.

  2. Hello Michelle

You'll love Estepona- it's lovely. Quite up-market and of course close to Puerto Banus and Marbella- THE place to people watch on the Costa Del Sol.

With an overall population of 37,000, the 'old town', as it is known, is a bustling and atmospheric centre.

Estepona is one of the few coastal towns that has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character, despite the onslaught of tourism. Notwithstanding, all the tourist facilities are here, including hotels, restaurants, leisure and cultural activities, and shops.

The flip side is that the numerous street cafes and tapas bars still serve traditional Spanish delicacies and the steep, cobbled, narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars. You'll also find unusual shops and bodegas in Estepona, where you'd least expect them, all very inviting, very friendly - and very cheap!

For the golfers there is always a golf course close to hand. For the boat and people watchers Puerto Banus has to be the place although Estepona Port and Puerto Duquesa are not far behind. There is tennis and squash, riding and bowling, swimming and water sports, water parks and Selwo wildlife reserve.

The park is based on the African safari park idea and houses 2000 animals in semi-wild conditions.  Selwo provides a unique and fantastic experience for the whole family. It is not a zoo ! The animals are genuinely in almost natural habitats with sympathetic borders between them and the public.

Estepona also has some beautiful beaches,:

    La Rada Beach

Right in the centre of Estepona and the towns most popular beach, La Rada Beach. It is quite expansive and backed by a modern sea front promenade for the entire length (2.6km). Chiringuitos (beach bars), are located throughout the seafront and serve traditional fare, such as paella and fresh sardines, or a choice of international-style dishes. The Marina is located at the west end of La Rada beach.

    El Cristo Beach

Situated just outside the town, to the west of the Marina El Cristo beach is situated in a delightful sheltered cove, ideal for children, with two new chiringuitos. It's ideal location means longer hours of sunshine, making it a particular favourite for serious sunbathers. This beach has become increasingly popular in recent years and tends to get quite crowded on summer weekends. It has a good atmosphere with music playing at two of the beach bars.

    El Padron Beach

Located a few km to the east of the town (km 159.5) and just to the east of the Rio Padron, near the Kempinski Resort Hotel. The beach has a large car park and two beach bars which means that it is particularly popular in the summer.

Quieter beaches can be found a few km to the east or west of the town. Try Playa del Castor just to the east, or Rio Castor at km 160.5. There is a track down to the beach from the main road, under the bridge and through the allotments. Even on a Sunday during the height of summer, chances are you will be alone. Don't forget to take the essentials: a good book and something to dri

Tivoli World theme park is also a family favourite. It has 20 acress of amusements including big dipper, ferris wheel, slot machines and dancing fountains. Also have regular theme shows in the 3,500 seater, open-air theatre such as Flamenco, Ballet and Country. Plenty of bars & restaurants on the site. A full day out for all.
