What is there to do in Puntarenas, Costa Rica?

I am going to Costa Rica. I was thinking about stopping in Puntarenas for a bit. What is there to do there?

puntarenas downtown is not beautiful. you can go to the beach (puntarenas beach is not the prettiest or the cleanest one, but it's ok), there are a lot of bars ans restaurants, and some things like that.

also, you can take a boat to the islands that are near from puntarenas (like isla tortuga)..

Puntarenas is full of bars and clubs.  There is a lot of night life.  However, I always caution tourist about the Center of Puntarenas and the Center of Limon.  You have to stay alert and keep your wits about you at all times.  There are a lot of robberies and thefts in tourist areas.  

On the other hand, Puntarenas has a relatively nice beach.  It's fairly clean and peaceful.  If you go during the week, it will be very sparsely populated.  Most Ticos work during the week and head to the beach on weekends.  I hope that helps.
