  1. Beaches!  Teach them about the ocean, how to swim, what different kinds of birds and shellfish are.  Also teach them that jellyfish can sting even after they're dead.  Orange Beach also has a lot of really good restaurants, and not all of them are expensive or fancy - seafood is a particular specialty of the area.

There are parks during the tourist seasons (and some are even open year-round) and mini-golf.  Head over to Gulf Shores, and you'll find the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.  Gulf Shores also has Waterville USA, which is a really good waterpark.

You're also pretty close to Pensacola, which has some really good museums.  The Wentworth museum has a lot of great stuff for kids, and the Air and Space Museum on Pensacola Naval Air Station is absolutely INCREDIBLE.  It's got its own IMAX theater, a full-sized carrier flight deck inside, AND an entire squadron of Blue Angels planes INSIDE hanging from the roof.  I don't even like planes much and that place blows my mind.

Speaking of Navy stuff,  you can go to Mobile and visit the USS Alabama, which is permanently moored there and is open for tours.  It's a real WWII-era battleship, and there's also an open-air display of airplanes and tanks, as well as a couple of other smaller ships (one of them a submarine).

Also in Mobile is the amazing Bellingrath gardens, acres and acres of beautiful gardens plus a riverboat cruise, and the Gulf Coast Exploreum, a science museum geared towards the young'uns.

  2. How about cow patch frisbee, or tip the cow, or hay bale toss??
