  1. Avoid St. Tropes or Cannes unless you want to pay a lot of money there....these are tourist towns.

Cannes has been known for the famous film festival.....you can see some good celebrities but still, you will need a lot of money. If you want something louder, I think Cannes has some type of fireworks festival but I don't know the specifics.....

You can visit Montpellier, which is about 18 km near the Mediterranean, which is, of course, on the south of France. Not too much of a tourist town; there is a pretty good city center in downtown Montpellier. called "Comedy Square", where some of the main outdoor action happens, and also "Esplanade Square", just near "Comedy Square", often used for the art festivals in the summer and even in winter. During Christmas time, they do have a Christmas market which also features some outdoor circus acts on some nights. Want to see a classical concert there? Visit the Le Corum, a theater complex that almost matches that of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

I hope all of this helps and I hope all of this helps you.

Milan, Italy is not in France so I can't answer you about that.......

  2. Pick up the locals.

Or if you are French, pick up American tourists.

An exellent way of promoting French-American understanding.

  3. Milan is awesome

  4. Monaco, not being part of France, shouldn´t be in this...

Are you kidding?  These are beach resorts!  You sun, swim, drink, go boating, play in the water, on the beach.  They are major resorts for the rich and famous, so you try to steal a peek at someone.

    You are in FRANCE!!!  Eat!

And, even though not part of France, Monaco!  It´s the gambling capital of the world!  Go check out the casinos!  You don´t actually have to gamble, just go people watch.

Hey, go rent a couple of old James Bond movies, and get a bunch of travel show tapes from the south of France, and get some ideas...they make soap in some towns, you can tour the factories...French bullfighting, (yes, there is such a thing) tour the Roman ruins in many cities, there´s one that has secret passageways that you can go through to short cut through the town.  If you get to the Spanish border there´s all sorts of places that were home to the impressionists and later artists.  Check out Globetrekkers, Samantha Brown, and Rick Steves online, and find out what they did in the towns in question.

For Milan, well, fashion capital of Italy, and Race cars, hig performance cars.  Again, Samantha Brown did a really good episode on Milan, and DIDN´T YOU SEE THE TURIN OLYMPICS?  Milan is the biggest city, where everyone flew in to get to the Olympics.   They did overviews on the whole area (as they always do).

  5. so much thing... you got great nightlife (antibes). Great beaches (St. Tropez), Montpelier. And then you must see Nice, Cannes, Monaco, the beautiful Cote d'azur, ...

If you have more time you can go to south and center Spain (Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid). Or to the great basque coast, in France and Spain (S. Sebastian, Pamplona, Bayonne, Biarritz,...). Or to north Italy (Milano, Torino, Venezia, Verona, ...)

My suggestion depends on the type of holidays you want... If you want mores beaches with excellent waves, and friendly people i would say the baske coast.

If you want cultural you should go to Italy.

If you want more beaches, good nightlife, sociable places, and a bit of culture you should go to South/Center Spain
