  1. That depends on your taste.  There is so much history here, from the castles to WWII sights and even the old roman architecture in Trier. There is tons to see in Germany just send me a message to gi_gremlin@yahoo.com with what you are into and I can tell you what might suit your tastes.  I live in Heidelberg which is an awesome city with a beautiful castle.  I would recommend seeing it.  Also check out www.frommers.com and see look at the cities you may be interested in.  They have pretty accurate information there.

  2. Castles, churches,.... a lot Germany is beautiful and has a loooooong history. My suggestion if you know where you want to go... do some research online. Every city has something different to offer

  3. Um, West Germany doesn't exist anymore.  Since about 17 years.

  4. You can visit the famous cities in West Germany: Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Koeln, Frankfurt and Berlin located West/East.

  5. i was just in hamburg, took the train from there to lubeck, that was my favorite city, both places offer lots of old history, beautiful churches and lots of beautiful architecture.Take some bus tours.Berlin is also supposed to be great,a very modern city.

  6. Jesus H, Astrid. I'm no "night life tourist either but I found  loads of things to see! Just depends where you are going as to what there is. Get out and mix with the people, particularly in the villages. They're a real friendly lot and most Germans speak at laest some english. Ask them what there is around about. Best idea is to Google "Germany" and most of the cities and regions have tourist information. Try and get to the Harz, its beautiful and southern Germany has awesome scenery. Best places to stay are private houses with a sign out front saying "Zimmer Frei." With a few exceptions they are warm friendly home owners who offer accomodation and a huge breakfast for very reasonable rates and will gladly supply tourist info and sometimes transport, at cost to show you their favorite places.

In summer, there are the Schutzenfests in most villages and some larger towns have festivals and concerts that are worth a look at. I could go on for ages, but you have to look for yourself to find things that suit your own tastes.

  7. Beer and Castles

  8. Where in Western Germany?  Which city?  What are your interests & preferences?  Sorry, but such a question without any details is really hard to answer....

And yes, "Sangminsean" also is right - West Germany (politically) doesn't excists anymore.

  9. Wherever you are there will be a church and/or castle nearby. Shopping is always fun, especially German flea markets! All German towns have quaint old centers to wander through or cafes to just sit and people-watch.
