Thermic fluids is a generic term for a heat transfer liquid. Heat transfer liquids are used to add (or remove) heat from one part of a process and move it to another part of the process where heat is added (or recovered). It is used in applications where steam or water may not work as well.

High temperature heat transfer fluids can remove (or add) heat that  would require the use of high pressure water or steam at a much lower pressure. So the equipment can be designed at a lower pressure rating which results in a lower cost. On the cold end of the scale, heat transfer fluids can operate at temperatures below the freezing point of water and be used for flash freezing applications or other very low temperature applications.
