What is this Filipino bath tradition?

When I was about 10 years old, my family went to the Philippines. When we were there, we had to do this bath "ritual."

I don't know what it was.

The bath water was greenish or brownish.

They took this string that was soaked in the liquid and made a vertical line on our lower abdomen.

After this whole thing we couldn't touch water or eat with forks.

I'm filipino, but I got curious and I want to know what exactly is "ritual" called and what it does.

  1. What do you mean you cant touch water and cant eat with forks.....is it temporary, or you can never touch forks or water?

Im not really sure if that is what filipinos do, but i still remember when i was 12, and i went to the Philippines, i got sick, and people did this ritual, where they throw rice, into a bowl of water, and then they "read" it. Then they place the rice in cotton, and attach it to the bottom of my shirt.
