My grandmothers were strong.

They followed plows and bent to toil.

They moved through fields sowing seed.

They touched earth and grain grew.

They were full of sturdiness and singing.

My grandmothers were strong.

My grandmothers are full of memories

Smelling of soap and onions and wet clay

With veins rolling roughly over quick hands

They have many clean words to say.

My grandmothers were strong.

Why am I not as they?

All i got was that, she is talking about her female ancestors. And how strong they were, they didnt need a man to work the fields to grow the food, and yet did everything a woman had to do, like cleaning , cooking, and even making pottery.

And she is not strong as they are, because she is a modern woman who doesnt have to do all that.

What can you say more about it? and whats it about?

  1. What if Grandpa was off to war and grandma stayed home and done all the work there. It do show a good marriage is 100% x 100% not 50% x 50%.Both are doing their damndest to survive, Grandma was a farmer, soap maker, cook and didn't whine about having to walk to the store, when the next check came in, and who's going to clean up this mess. No Matireal girl here, so I guess she was strong to face life with out her husband and being alone at night and day, and nobody like her husband to see the fruits of her labor and aprechiate her for all she is worth. Sounds like my grandma. I also bet she never missed a day of work or complained about not getting her 10 min. break and so on. Talk about old school. I guess we all could use some.

  3. Maybe how they help and how there strong by strong i mean brave.

  4. Well a guy has to be in the picture somewhere, or she would not be here.
