Someone who is Spanish brought some pastries into my work and I was just wondering what it was called. Because of the language barrier I couldn't ask, but I did get out of it that it was from a Spanish bakery, not home made.

It was yellow, round and about the size of a soft ball, maybe a little bigger than a baseball. It was very sweet and it had a pudding like center and the pastry itself was about the consistency of a muffin. Anyone know the name of this? Thanks.

  1. I believe it is either Magdalenas or Gató d'Ametlla. Magdalenas looks like muffins actually.

Take a look at the pic:

  2. It would have helped if you would have said the flavor of the pastry. This site might help you.

  3. I never saw one like that in Spain. Are you sure they are Spanish (i.e. from the country Spain)? They sound like something I've had in Mexico (& Texas), but not exactly (the filling). As far as Gatò de ametlla (sp.?), that's Catalan based on the spelling, and I wouldn't consider it the same cuisine any more than I would Cuban and Mexican.

You didn't take a picture of it, did you?
