Question:

What is this Time Travel Theory called?

I understand that there are so many different theories on time travel, it's not even funny. But I'm wondering what they call this theory on it:

Say you go back in time to change something in the past. Well by doing so, you no longer have a purpose for going back in time in the first place. Therefore, when you return to the present, instead of coming back to an alternate present like you had hoped, you just come back to the exact same present that you left behind.

  1. quantum theory

  2. I don't know but today I bought "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve for $1....lol...It's the best time travel movie there is!!!  I've been lieing in bed for an hour "trying to change the past"..lol I think it can't be done! We're stuck with the past...good or bad. Don't mess your head up trying to figure this out...You can't come back to the same present because changing one event can change other things.But.I don't think saving Kennedy would have changed everything in everybody's life..because not all people's lives are that much affected by who is president...unless they're a really bad president...or unless there's a war. Life is usually based around family. As long as your family is your family...then your life stays pretty much the same.(unless the president sends a member of your family to war)  I know that if I could change things from the past in my personal life...a lot of things would be different now. Sometimes just one event  in the present can change everything in your life. Just think about the Jews...how different their lives would have been if Hitler hadn't been born.Anyway...that's just what I think. I could be wrong.

  3. I think in the Dr. Who universe that would be the "Timey-wimey" part of the "Wibbely-Wobbely Timey-Whimey" theory of time.

The idea goes that Time travel takes place in a continuum and the reasons and actions of one person doesn't short circut the continuum but rather is an integral part within it.

  4. Sorry if some of the answers misled you before. This is actually as you said before a version, although not the classic situation of the grandfather paradox. You go back in time and do something that makes it so you would not have gone back in time, therefore you cant be thier.

I am a believer along the lines of you go back in time and attempt to prevent the assination of JFK but all attempts fail. When you get back to the future, you see yourself in one of the photos from the scene, although the person was always there, you didnt realize it was you until now. I think they do something like this on the movie "12 Monkeys" and "De Ja Vue"

Another interesting movie on the subject is "Millenium" starring Kris Kristoferson, the musician. They send people back in time to save lives to stock the future. Everytime they s***w up they change the time stream, and it is devestating in the future where everyone feels it and sees the changes taking place. They know that changing the past is going to destroy them, so they send groups of people into the future to a time long after they are destroyed.

  5. back to the future.

But there is similar idea that sound travels continuos on air.Voice can not be end and one day we can hear the sound in the past.

  6. Temporal displacement paradox.

    (I dunno, it sounds good...)

  7. There is one hypothesis about Time Travel, that even if you do travel back in time to change an event (Save a person, kill a person, whatever)  that time will set itself back on track.  Sorry, thats not an answer for your question, just thought Id throw it out there

  8. It is called Quantum Theory. Albert Einstein have worked on two theories: the Relativity Theory and the Quantum Theory. While his Theory on Relativity had been explored extensively and put into actual use, not much have been done to explore his Quantum Theory. Einstein was among the first to propose the possibility of time travel but in order to do so, one must be travelling faster than the speed of light. That idea, at this point, seems very impossible to achieve.

About your topic of going into the past to try to change something, there are certain rules that must be followed if supposing time travel is already possible. No one must change anything in the past because that would also change the future and you may not be able to get back there anymore. Other rules include: don't bring anything from the present to the past, or bring anything from the past back to the present, never interfere with anyone in the past who will have a direct link to your existence, never attempt to meet your own self in the past.

I hope that helps. See you in the future...or in the past.
