  1. Well, back when phone service became popular and was just starting to become available to everyone the government decided to add a surcharge or "luxury tax" in order to pay for WWII and other military spendings, and you would think they would have relieved the consumers of that by now... but why would they do that when the local phone companies get questioned about it, and called thieves. Just good ol uncle sam keeps taken your hard earned dollar........


  2. The tax and surcharges must be a local tax that was allowed by the local government. Verizon is horrible with those kind of things they wont tell what it is, they just do it.
