Actually, depending on your age, there are two answers. One version of the e-ticket is an electronic version of a standard ticket (most theme parks use this system now, as well as major airlines, rental car agencies, etc.)

The other E-ticket is in reference to a popular ride or experience, usually a thrill-type roller coaster. WARNING: HISTORY LESSON: Originally, Disneyland issued ticket books for the rides within the Magic Kingdom. These books had tickets ranging in value from A to D, and later E. A tickets were for the small children rides (carousel), while the E tickets were for the more popular and adult-type rides. The last official E-Ticket ride created for Disneyland was Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road (1979), when Disney discontinued the books in favor of general admission passes in 1981.

Today E-Ticket still refers to a thrilling, exciting ride or adventure.
