It sounds electrical and when there's no other noise anyone can hear it if you go near the walls around the bedroom.

  1. Have you checked outside for air conditioning unit or other appliance against the wall?

  2. Wiring very rarely makes any noise, and if it does there's

trouble brewing, however more often it's inductors:

Is there a control transformer for your heating system

    anywhere near this bedroom?

Is there an old fluorescent light anywhere round?

Is the door-chime transformer in the area?

  3. Sounds goofy but have you checked for bees? Could be the hum of another appliance in the house echoing in the walls. Good luck!

  4. Could be a loose connection in one of your outlets. Find the sound, get someone to go and turn breakers off in the breaker panel until the sound stops. This will narrow the problem. Could also be a GFI or Ground Fault Interrupter breaker in one of the rooms. Have heard them make a buzzing sound at times....

  5. Start switching off beakers to see if the sound goes away.  If it is electrical and inside the wall don't turn the breaker back on once you find it, call an electrician.

If all the breakers are off and the noise is still there call a pest control guy to look for bees.

  6. Attic fan - bees in walls - carpenter ants in the wall - fluorescent light on adjacent wall - relay for some low voltage switch - transformer for the doorbell- pump running somewhere.  Try turning breakers off to see if stops.
