  1. Sounds a little high to me, but the car might be in excellent condition.  Spend $50 and have it inspected by an independent mechanic.  Check prices at kbb.com or nada.com.

  2. It depends on the actual condition of the car. Car with these much mileage and age, you will be better to expect it may break down at anytime for the Engine or Transmission, but sometime it can surprisely working really well...  It will be more important to find you the actual condition of the Engine or Transmission of the car.

Also, there are rooms to get the price lower.

  3. Kelly Blue Book says full retail on something like this (DX trim, Southern California) would be $3,815, and trade-in would be @ $1,350 in excellent condition.  Of course, KBB doesn't buy cars.  You might get a couple hundred from a dealership; they are trying to make a living, after all.  You could probably get around a grand selling it private party, a bit more if it is in good shape.

"Good Shape" is a relative term.  Many people will say a car's in good shape if it runs.  Older cars can have their problems.  Gas mileage won't be as good as it was new.  It'll need maintenance.  If you're prepared to spend money keeping it running, and the price fits your budget, then go for it.  I probably wouldn't.
