What is this conflict btwn Russia and Georgia about?

I dont' know anything about the relationship history between Georgia and Russia. please explain why their almost about to go to war!

Concerned is right... here are the facts.

South Ossetia gained its independence from Georgia in the 1990's.  Georgia and South Ossetia fought a short war that ended in a truce. As part of the truce, Georgia gave up control of South Ossetia.  South Ossetia is an independent region between Georgia and Russia. The occupants/residents are mainly Russian citizens.

A few days ago, Georgia ATTACKED South Ossetia and took control.  Russia decided to go in and bomb Georgian military equipment and installments.  Of course, hundreds of residents died.  But, Russia made the decision that its citizens should not be under Georgian control based on the fact that South Ossetia broke from Georgia 15 years ago.

TIME magazine has a good and balanced article that you will not see on television. It explains that Georgia made a gamble figuring NATO would back them in the unlikely event Russia took offense and defended South Ossetia.

Georgia's gamble failed miserably.  Russia came in and "freed" its citizens in South Ossetia and NATO did nothing to help Georgia.

I think it sends a pretty clear message to former Soviet bloc stats (Latvia, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Urkaine)... NATO does not have the will or stomach to assist you.

Just facts: Russia did not initiate military action.  Georgia's forces has bombed and destroyed the region's capital and 1400 civilians in just the 1st day.  There can be no justification for that.  DO NOT forget this point. For the rest, see the videos below.

GEORGIA invaded south ossetia first

bombed innocent civilians, about 2000 by now, created a genocide, all because they think theyre the only ones who can live on that land.

so russia is now fighting back.

Stupid us media is making out russia as the bad guys, which is bull.

georgia is small and is playing the "we did nothing" card, putting hte world on their side .

Georgia used to be a Soviet Republic, but now it is an independent country. A part of Georgia in which many Russians live wants to break away, but Georgia wants to preserve its territorial integrity. The Russians have other ideas, obviously.

Georgia didn't attack anyone!!! Country's military actions were a forced response to excessive activity of separatists always whole-heartedly supported by Russia.  They are trying to involve Abkhazia in this too. There is also an informational war going on, Russia is spreading disinformation. They have been denying bombing Georgia's territory, but a fact is a fact; they have been and still are invading Georgia's air space, bombing and destroying country on their way. Open your eyes people Gorgia is a small country it doesn't have enough military resourses to protect itself!!! how possibly could it be the agressor?!!!
