What is this emo / scene rage/trend?

It appears that a lot of people are getting into this scene or emo trend. Especially with the long hair covering their face and dyed different colors. What is it and where is it coming from?

My family is traditionally formal or preppy oriented and recently one of my cousins has gotten into this trend and I am wondering where is this influence coming from? and what is the style exactly?

  1. I don't know, all these kids need to listen to john lee hooker and shut the h**l up.

  2. i've asked the same question, and the response i got from my friend is.  if the cure were to have s*x withe the cranberries.  this would be their offspring.  otherwise you got me.

  3. emo is short for emotionally depressed (cutting is a sterotype)

scene is based on awesome looking hair (would never do to my own but i love the hair) and lots of eyeliner

i'm not scene but i love their music

black and neon colors go well

the hair dyed different colors is just a way to stand out

  4. Like the previous poster said it's all about trying to be different. I just love it when an "emo" says they are different when you can easily walk out and see 150 emo kids a day-yeah real different ! If you want to be different try acting "normal" No one is normal anymore :(

  5. This "scene/ emo trend" is coming mainly from music, crappy music at that.... Teens begin listening to bands such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, 30 Seconds 2 Mars, whatevr. They look at the singers and members of the bands and c that they all look kinda funky and "unique" Ha! Unique? I think not! Kids think their idols r sooo cool and unique because of their looks and their music but the truth is theyre all copying one another. Almost evry new "rock" song that comes out nowadays copys the same few riffs of their fellow rockers music. Nobody has their own style or ideas anymore.... Its so pittiful

  6. i have no idea, but i really dont like it! i think its bands that influence people... fall out boy, paramore etc

  7. i have the "scene" hairstyle.

But I'm not scene, emo, or goth.

The style is supposed to be about originality and inspired by things like non-main steam music.

if you ask me a lot off posers just want it so they can seem "cool" and "unique"

I like it cuz i gives my hair volume and tons of options for style =]

  8. it's an emo/scene/trend! haha idk ppl phases of crazy things ALL the time. so that's jjust exactly what it is. maybe you can't explain it but it's there :)

  9. See theres so many followers and they like the look so they want to get into being emo or scene. As of me i got into it through depression. I just really accidently slipped into it. Do i regret it? no cuz this is how i express myself. I mean there are people who dis them..why? becuz they dont like different. America had been made up of the orginial teenager who is preppy and c**p and then here comes sumone different and becuz they are different then there weird. Its pretty much all b.s but w/e haha

  10. The trend has been around for quite a long time, but it became really popular around 2004-2005 and now more teenagers are following it than not. It's normal to walk throughout the mall to see a guy wearing girl's clothes and having blonde hair with black and green highlights. I personally don't like the style, but whatever.

  11. wow, your cousin's turning emo.

    better get away from him.

    he's gonna cry....

  12. emo is annoying, just a bunch of kids trying to be different but conforming to whatever the trend is. theres nothing attractive about getting i giant fryed bleached mullet on ones head and wearing 500 pounds of makeup haha. :P

  13. emo bands. i have also noticed that many stores are starting to sell clothing that only carries certain styles, catering mostly to people following this "trend". i honestly think it is coming from popular bands who dress this way, younger teenagers are just following their idols. i really don't know, but i wonder the same thing. it seems everyone dresses the same, even though they are all trying to stand out.
