My husband bought me a plant for Mother's Day. It has heart shaped leaves and also has pink flowers that almost look like they are turned inside out. (The petals of the flower are pulled back) I also remember that the plant started with the letter "C". It had no instructions on how to care for the plant and it has started to die. :o( Can someone please tell me what this plant is called and how to care for it?

  1. Sounds like a fuchsia.  Mine are pinkish...but the leaves aren't quite heartshaped.  Does it look like this:

  2. Oh, I have some cyclamen! They often die on me this time of year, but sometimes, if I just keep watering them every now and then, they come back in time for the next year.

OK, it's supposed to go dormant! See here:

"The florist cyclamen is derived from Cyclamen persicum, a Mediterranean plant. In nature it goes dormant during the summer months, comes into growth as cooler, damper weather starts, flowers in autumn, winter or spring, and goes dormant again as the summer becomes warm."

For more instructions on how to care for it, check out the extension article I've listed as my source for the above paragraph.

(-: Isn't it good to know it ISN'T your fault???

  3. cyclamen...http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu4suxnlI1G...

  4. prepare the final resting ground...all things are impermanent, my sentimental friend... especially when it comes to artificially forced florist's cyclamen.

To commemorate the lovely memory, seek out Cyclamen Neapolitanum, which will grow happily in your home garden, sending up clouds of little pink or white butterflies when you least expect it starting in late August and continuing into late October.  Pretty heart-shaped mottled, stippled, patterned leaves appear as the blooms progress and last until early summer, when the entire plant goes completely dormant. Mark your plant well, for it is entirely possible to dig it out without being aware of it.

  5. GO 2 THAT SHOP FROM WHERE HUSBAND BUY THAT PLANT...........!!!!!!!!!YOUR DUDE HARSHIL!!!!!!.....

  6. Is it called columbine. Here is a link to a pic http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/senior/fl...

  7. Try repotting it. Dampen the soil (not watering to the point of drowning) 2x daily. Add miracle grow plant drops.

Sorry for your plant! I hope this helps.
