What is this guitar piece?

The guitar I got off ebay is a Squire Strat Fender. I got it as is and it has some writing on it; I already know where to get the pick guard, however can't get the drawing off the back!

Just called a back plate. If I were you though, I'd just take it off and leave it with the springs visible in back. That's what a bunch of people I know who own strats do and I know some guy named Eric Clapton did this too.
