My brother and I live in Michigan. About 30 north-west of Detroit. And we were walking down our street and he stepped on this fly.

  1. Cicada

  2. It's a cicada.  They leave their exoskeletons all over our trees here in ohio.

  3. It's a Dog Day Cicada, Tibicen linnei. Belongs to the Order Homoptera. So called "Dog Day" because it is active during the hot & humid "dog days" of August, it also emerges in July and Aug.  AKA annual cicada.  Completely harmless to humans. Feed on plant tisues, lay/deposit eggs in plant tissues and small tree branches. Smaller trees can suffer much damage from a heavy load of cicadas.
