i just got a car from a distant family member and along with all of the paper work i found this odd key shaped chip thing. The car is a 1999 Chrysler 300m.

Do you think that this could be a transponder? It's bigger than the actual key that i now have.

here are a few picture links of it

  1. Try looking in the owner's manual, you know that book that got tossed in the glove box and never looked at.

It looks like some kind of electronic security key.  You probably wont need it unless the battery gets disconnected and you will have to find the slot to reactivate the car.

Or it's for the radio, as a theft deterrent if the radio is removed form the car it wont operate until that key is inserted to release the security lockout.  It will also be required if the battery is disconnected because in that event the radio will think it was removed.  Does the radio have a slot for an SD card or a memory stick?

  2. what this looks like is a theft deterrent key, you will need to find the slot it goes into to start the car, or it will not run.

(I am not a dodge guy, but thats what it looks like to me)
