It's been 7 years since i took judo and the sensei showed me moves specifically for me since i worked on off days. Anyways he showed me a modified Seoi-nage (not sure), where instead of just flipping the opponent i would jump in the air with the opponent on my back flip around once and land on my opponent directly into a kesa gatame anyone know what that is called?

  1. I don't know what you're talking about when you say with the opponent on your back, you jump in the air.

If you just follow through with your seoinage to the mat, you will find yourself in perfect position for a kesa gatame, especially if you started with the third variant of seoinage, where you grip the opponents left lapel with your right hand and turn in.

  2. I think its just a competition-style seoi nage. In japanese terms i think it would be called kuzure seoi nage, kuzure meaning "variation." This variation is good for competition, because it lowers the chances of your opponent avoiding the attack, or not making it a clean "ippon" or point. So even if you miss the seoi nage, you still have a chance of winning the point with the kesa gatame scarf hold.

    Hope this helps bud
