I'm not sure what the string is that everyone is talking. However it does look something like what they would use on crops or on housing sites. It might toil the land or lay out where things are probably laid down.

That looks like a giant string trimmer (a kind of grass cutter). Each of the wheels has a string on it.

It appears to be a heavy brush cutter and would be used to clear pathes for fire trails and roads threw lightly forested areas. Note the blades are toothed and driven hydraulically, the unit capable of being laid flat and extended quite far in front of the bulldozer, sweeping right and left to clear wide areas.
