It's the one she does at 0:40 seconds into the video.

Is it an arabesque/spiral or is it called something different?

Thanks! =]

  1. scorpion

  2. That is definitely not an arabesque. It is either called a back catch, or a scorpion. At least in dancing that us what it is called. In the video she is not even spinning while in the position, so what is all this about turning? It's a back catch/scorpion, plain and simple. A scorpion tends to be more square, with the lifted leg much more bent, while a back catch the leg is straight and you can try and touch your head to your leg.

  3. In dance/gymnastics/contortionism, the position is called a scorpion.  The turn while in the position is called the Bielmann spiral (ice skating).  And arabesque (the position) is a straight leg behind you while your hips are completely square.  A spiral (ice skating) is when you're gliding on one leg in a position, either in arabesque, scorpion, penche, whatever. :) Hope that answers your question.

  4. It's a Biellmann spiral.  It can also be used in a spin.
