  1. It's something like Kitchen Bouquet. You use only a teaspoon or so to give a rich deep color to beef and lamb gravy. It's some what of a cross between. Worchestershire sauce, beef bullion, lemon juice and steak sauce. Maybe add a bullion cube to your recipe with a dash of lemon, sometimes a tablespoon of catsup. p.s. don't add any bullion. After reading your recipe you've got plenty with the dried onion soup mix.

  2. This is what the Recipe Zaar says it is:

A browning and seasoning sauce for meats, gravies, and stews. It's ingredients include caramel coloring, mixed vegetable stock, salt and parsley.

    Ingredient

    Season: available year-round

I believe it adds some flavoring and coloring to the dish but you could probably skip it - I never use it in my stroganoff.

  3. Someone else asked what browning sauce was:

At the store it's Kitchen Bouquet or Gravy Master. - Portland

You can make it at home, but be careful, take 1/2 cup of white sugar and brown it in a pot, it will take 5-10 minutes stir or just move the pot around, when the mixture starts to get dark, take it off the stove burner, add 1 cup of hot water or the water and some beef soup base, it will sputter, put in back on a low heat until the water has mixed in, cool it and then put in a disposible container, use a spoon or 2 when making gravys, stews, sauces and even put some in you meatloafs and meatball mixtures.   - David H

  4. It's commonly called Kitchen Bouquet. Since the recipe only calls for a teaspoon, you can safely skip it.
