There is little white dots everywhere on him. I dont know what it is. He was laying on the bottom and he got up when I went next to it. Do you know what it is?

And my other platy has fin rot (he is in a different tank).

How long does fin rot take to get rid of?

  1. the white dots r ich, if you raise the water temp to 85F it will get rid of it, your platy may be to far gone tho.Fin rot takes about a week to cure, but the scars take longer. Both of these are caused by poor water qualities, so you might want to do more frequent water changes.

  2. It sounds like he has ICK, you can get treatments at your local petco, or fish supply store, but I would not wait too long to get it because ICK kills them very quickly. Good luck and I hope everything works out for the best.

  3. If it looks like someone sprinkled the fish with salt, that's ich.  It's a parasite.  That, along with the fin rot on the other fish, sounds like you may be dealing with poor water quality issues.  Here's some links with more info on ich and different treatment options:

Best bet is to use the heat and salt method.  For the fin rot, if it's not too advanced, keeping the water quality good is usually enough.  Otherwise, an antibiotic like Maracyn Two or tetracycline is needed for advanced cases.

  4. That sound like ick.

Go get some ick medication and some tail rot medication.

It should be gone after one week of treating.
