Question:

What is this orange stain on my green shirt?

I recently purchased this dark olive t-shirt from American Apparel. After wearing it once, I left it on a chair to chill (since I was too lazy to do laundry at the time). I come back two days later, and there are these bright orange stains on the shirt.

I have had this happen before, but only AFTER I washed my clothes. This time, I did NOT wash the shirt; the stains seemed to have appeared by themselves. Where did they come from and how can I get rid of them?

Picture of the shirt with stains is attached:

  1. It looks like bleach got on it and faded the color.  It is not a stain.

  2. it looks like the shirt was dyed the olive color and its bleeding off i would take it back and get my money back and not purchase any shirts from them again

  3. I think I know exactly what that is. Do you use acne medicine - particularly one with benzoyl peroxide? That will bleach your clothes, your towels, sheets, etc. And the bleaching looks EXACTLY like that!

If that's the case - either be sure not to rub your shirts across your face as you get dressed & undressed. Or if you're using the creme on your chest or back, try a salicylic acid or sulfur based acne medicine.

  4. I would definitely return this shirt to the store where you purchased it and demand a full refund.

  5. I don't know where the stains came from. Could someone else in your house have washed it. Could they be afraid to admit they ruined your shirt and put it back so they don't get blamed.

It looks like someone spilled bleach on the shirt. Nothing to do but either redye it, throw it out, or wear it as is and make a fashion statement,
